Don’t Matter is a reggae fusion R&B song recorded by Senegalese-American recording artist Akon, for his 2006 second studio album Konvicted.
It was co-written and produced by Akon.
The song was released as the album’s third single on January 19, 2007, eventually topping the US Billboard Hot 100 and charts in 5 other countries. It also reached Number 3 on the UK Singles chart.
A crucial part of the chorus uses Bob Marley‘s 1979 classic song Zimbabwe while the verse interpolates the melody from R. Kelly‘s song Ignition (Remix).
Among many artists like Bizzy Bone, Jadiel and Candade Jones, American singer Nivea also recorded a somewhat popular cover of the song entitled Nobody.
Furthermore, the single came in at Number 31 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 100 Best Songs of 2007.
