If You Had My Love is an R&B pop song and debut single by American singer Jennifer Lopez, from her 1999 debut studio album On the 6.
DarkChild produced the song, and also co-wrote it with LaShawn Daniels and Cory Rooney.
It was released on May 4, 1999 as the album’s lead single and received mostly positive reviews as well as being commercially successful.
The single dominated the US Billboard Hot 100 for several weeks and eventually earned the title as one of the best-selling singles of 1999 in the US. It also reached Number 4 on the UK Singles chart and topped the charts in New Zealand, Canada, Australia, Denmark, Finland and Spain.
This is generally opined to be one of Lopez’s best songs.
Tidbit: American singer Michael Jackson initially showed interest in the song, but later felt it was better suited for a female singer. The song ended up making Lopez one of few actors to successfully crossover into the music industry
